Many counters will alter their appearance so casino personnel do not recognize them. By changing the style of clothes & adding accessories the counter who had previously been detected hopes to play unrecognized. Some counters will go to extremes wearing wigs and false facial hair.

This observation will help you in a number of ways. The simpliest reason is to know who’s being rated. Players move from table to table and it is important to rate their play properly. The person may return later looking for a comp and you may have to verify his play. There might be an incident or argument and these players could move to another game. Recognizing them and alerting appropriate personnel will be helpful in dealing with them. Know who plays on the game. If someone is new, watch their play, especially if they make large wagers or have a large bet spread.

Pulling a hat over their eyes, hunched down, leaning on an elbow can pull the wool over the eyes of personnel who don’t take the time to observe the pit closely. Dark glasses can sheild a counters eyes. Women will change their hairstyles and use makeup to become someone else.they could look like a schoolteacher one-day and a model the next. By growing facial hair, males can easily change their characteristics. It may be the deluxe full beard and moustache or simply longer or shorter sideburns. Then they can shave certain areas to change their looks. There are so many different styles of clothes that can help a person change their appearance.
counters can only succeed if they can play undected. A small percentage will take drastic measures to dramatically change their image. Wigs and false facial hair are the most common however some counters have dyed their hair to disguise themselves.they may attempt to change their nationality by dress, speech and appearance. One counter spoke with an indian accent and wore a turban. Keep an open mind; anything is possible. Try to pick out distinct traits when observing people. Look at their facial features eyes, nose, etc. This will help you detect the person wearing a disguise. If counters can’t get a bet in, they can’t win. They will go to great lengths to do so. Here is an example: in a span of six weeks this person entered the casino as himself, a tourist with sunglasses, crocodile dundee complete with bush hat, 2 sets of wigs and facial hair to match and as a appliance salesman in a sport coat and tie. He is well known and was spotted immediately. Though some of the disguises were not very good this is and example of the great lengths some counters will go to play in a casino. To the casual observer they will appear to be just another player. This is their goal. If you can remember something about their play, bet spreads, mannerisms etc. You can see through their desguises.
Aliases
counters will change their name, addresses and birthdate. This can give the impression that they are a new player. They may in fact have several accounts with a “comp” card for each alias or they can have accounts generated on each visit. The counter can now act like a regular customer playing under an account till it is detected. He will then use another fictitious name.
some counters change both names. Others will change only one name. Examples are : rich waters, rich stewart, and rich anderson. Or michael waters and ken waters. The birthdates can be completely altered or they may transpose a few numbers. Ken waters was born 4/12/57 could be altered 12/4/57 under another account. They may change only the month, 4/12/57 becomes 5/12/57. Counters may have a habit of using the same last name or always give the same city or birthday. This will help in detecting them. All possibilities should be considered.
recognizing counters who change their physical characteristics and have altered their names and birthdates takes keen observation, patience and exploring all possibilities. Periodically examine the photo album to familiarize yourself with known counters and how they disguise themselves and the names they are currently using and have used in the past.
